YES! I FEEL CALLED TO COACH! BOOK MY ENROLLMENT INTERVIEW TODAY!

I’m Jay, the founder of Jay Shetty Certification School where we help life coaches get trained, certified and build a thriving business.

Welcome to this short video training session, I’m so glad you decided to join me.

You most likely found your way here because on some level…

You feel called to be a coach.

Something inside is telling you that if you took your unique blend of wisdom and experience and channeled it through the medium of coaching, you’d be able to have a huge impact in the lives of real people.

You’d be able to wake up each day doing work that sets your soul on fire and be well paid doing it. Simply put, it’s your idea of a dream career.

And yet, perhaps another part of you has doubts…

Do I really have what it takes to be a coach? Am I ready for this next step in my life and career?

Does that sound like you?

Good! You’re in exactly the right place.

Because by the time you’ve watched this short video, you’re going to know once and for all, if you are ready for a life and career in coaching.

Now, I get asked quite a lot…are good coaches born or made?

My answer is both! The best coaches are born and made!

In my experience, the best coaches are born with some natural qualities that make them ideal candidates to be a coach.

And they also feel drawn toward coaching in some way. Almost like they’ve been called.

But of course, this alone doesn’t qualify you to be a coach.

A great coach needs to learn their craft. It takes study, practice and dedication. That’s why the Jay Shetty Certification School exists.

We turn people who present themselves as suitable candidates… into master coaches.

And that’s what we’re going to cover in this short video…

I’ll share with you five natural qualities of a great coach, to help you assess your own suitability for a career in coaching.

And then afterward, if you think coaching is the right choice for you, I’ll share how you can actually take action and get started as a life coach today.

So, let’s begin by answering the question…

Do you have what it takes to be an amazing life coach?

Since we opened the Jay Shetty Certification School a few years ago, we’ve had the honor and privilege of welcoming thousands of students through our doors.

Whilst each and every student is unique, we noticed they shared some common personality traits that made them such good candidates to train as life coaches in the first place.

We observed 5 qualities in particular that almost all our most successful coaches have.

If you possess at least 4 or ideally all 5 of these qualities, I can tell you with a really high degree of confidence that you have the potential to be a great coach.

Here we go…

1: You have a deep desire to serve

This is the starting point for any great coach.

You must love people and you must love seeing the transformative power of your coaching in their lives.

You must sincerely care about the welfare of your clients.

You must have a deep yearning to serve them with your unique gifts and insights.

I’ve seen people become life coaches for reasons other than this.

They didn’t last long. The best coaches have their core reason for coaching rooted in service.

Now please don’t misunderstand me. I’m not saying you can’t have secondary motivations for becoming a coach.

There are lots of other really important reasons – successful coaches can make great money, they can be their own boss and work on their own terms, there are all kinds of other motivations. And they are all great reasons to consider becoming a coach.

But might I humbly suggest that these things alone are not enough.

Your main motivation for becoming a coach must be anchored in the service of others. The rest will follow.

So, ask yourself that question…

Do I want to be a coach because I want to be of service to others?

Do I feel most alive when helping other people?

If the answer is yes, it’s a good sign that you are called to coach.

2: You’re already coaching – unofficially!

Have you ever been told you’re a good listener or a good sounding board?

Do people seem to confide in you?

Do you find that people come to you with their problems or look to you for help in a crisis?

Do they turn to you for a new perspective, guidance or some wise counsel?

Our students tell us time and time again, that in hindsight it feels like they were being led towards a life of coaching, because in one form or another they’ve been doing it their entire lives, albeit in a very basic way.

Of course, a professional coach does far more than just listen to people’s secrets and problems, a certified coach knows exactly how to help people navigate these issues.

But it shows that the people who know you best have recognized certain qualities in you…

Maybe they know you’re trustworthy…

Maybe you’re deeply empathetic and they feel that…

Maybe you’re non-judgemental and they felt safe opening up to you…

Maybe they see you as wise…

Whatever their reasons, they came to you for help.

And that’s a strong indication that you’re called to coach.

You have the raw, natural talent already.

All you need to do now is learn the frameworks and methodologies to channel these qualities as a professional coach.

3: You’re collaborative and believe in the potential of your fellow human beings

A good coach holds space for their client to find answers from within. You’re a facilitator. A guide.

Contrary to popular belief a coach does not give all the answers. That is what a consultant does.

A consultant is a subject matter expert that tells people what they should do and how they should do it, which is perfectly fine, but it is not coaching.

It’s important to be clear on this distinction.

As a life coach, you are not the expert of your client’s life. Your client is the expert of their own life. You are the expert of coaching.

You allow them to feel seen and heard. You guide and encourage them. And help them to realize inner truths.

This collaborative approach also requires you to believe in the limitless potential of others.

There’s no hierarchy in a coaching relationship, it is more like a partnership dynamic. This means there’s a great deal of trust involved, and it must flow both ways…

They need to trust you but you must also trust them because you’re just simply awakening possibilities in them and bringing their own answers into crystal-clear focus.

If you are generally cynical about humanity and their capacity for greatness, coaching is not the right profession for you.

Ask yourself… Am I naturally collaborative? Do I believe in the potential of others?

If this way of working with people resonates with your spirit, it’s another sign you have the makings of an excellent coach.

4: You are unafraid to be authentic

To be a life coach, you’re required to know everything and be perfect, right?

Wrong!

One of the biggest misconceptions about coaching is the idea that as a life coach, you must have some kind of perfect life, be an all-knowing guru or must have walked the exact same path your client wants to go.

But it’s not true.

A mentor must have walked the path the student wants to follow. A coach does not.

You are not claiming to know everything, nor should you have to, in order to be a highly effective life coach.

For example, an astrophysicist is seeing a life coach. The coach doesn’t have to be an astrophysicist themselves or understand every last detail of what an astrophysicist does to help with their goals.

Getting to know them as a human being – their needs, desires, fears, and values – enables you to guide them to discover clarity.

And when it comes to perfectionism…

Let me ask you… do you think my life is perfect?

I love my life but it is not perfect!

If I had waited to become perfect or for the perfect moment to arrive before I chose to put myself out in the world as a coach, I simply wouldn’t be here. There’d be no Jay Shetty Certification School.

So, give yourself permission to be you. To show up in the world as your authentic self.

You don’t have to fake anything. There’s no pretense necessary.

Because you are worthy to be a coach, right now, as you are.

Your insight and experience are unique, and only you can offer that to the world.

The truth is, you are as ready now as you ever will be.

If you are comfortable being your vulnerable and authentic self, I’m so glad to hear it because this is another hallmark of a natural coach.

5: You are coachable and committed to your own personal development

The best coaches I know are themselves highly coachable.

They are not perfect but they are committed to lifelong growth.

Because the road to becoming a great coach is not always easy, you must be willing to learn, practice, invest, and sacrifice, along the way.

This is how you reach mastery in any walk of life.

Your own mindset and attitude toward learning will play a key role in your success as a coach. Finding joy and fun as you learn and grow is also a huge advantage.

Just as you will ask your clients to commit to higher levels of transformation and self-actualization, you too must be willing to commit and improve yourself as a coach.

Ask yourself, do I love to learn and grow?

If the answer is yes, it’s another sign that you’re cut out for coaching.

And there you have it, 5 signs you’ve been called to coach, let’s recap quickly…

1. You have the desire to serve
2. You’ve been coaching already – unofficially, at least
3. You’re collaborative
4. You’re authentic
5. You’re coachable and committed to your own growth

How did you do?

If you were a strong match with at least four, maybe even all five…

Congratulations, I think there’s a really good chance that coaching is your true calling.

And for that reason, I want to extend a personal invitation to you today…
